Australia Visa: Your Key to the Land Down Under

Once you have decided to have an Australian holiday, the next thing to consider is to get your Australia visa. Before you could even think about scuba diving, outback tours, and lying in the pristine beaches, you should first consider getting an Australian visa. Listed below are some helpful guidelines regarding Australia visa:

Who Needs an Australian Visa?

For your Australia holiday, you and your company would be required to have a visa so that you could enter into Australia. Some exceptions to this are if you are holding a New Zealand passport or if you are simply continuing your trip within 8 hours of your arrival while in possession of a valid onward plane ticket and if you are not departing from the transit lounge.

You also need to remember that each Australian visa has to be acquired before your actual departure towards your Australian holiday. You would not be permitted to board your plane without presenting a valid visa or ETA as well as your passport and other travel documents.

Which Australian Visa is Required?

Due to the country’s natural beauty, unique charm, warm climate and its fast growing economy make Australia one of the most ideal places on earth to establish a business, work, live or simply visit.

Suffice it to say that there are plenty of Australian visas that could allow you to enter Australia. It is absolutely vital that you have obtained the right visa for yourself and your company, which would cover your intended stay as well as the purpose of your visit to Australia.

Tourists in Australia are required to have a travel visa. If you want to go to Australia with the intention of sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, as well as other non-working activities, what you would specifically need is either an ETA Short-Stay Tourist Visa or a Long-Stay Tourist Visa. But then, if you also want to travel to Australia for business purposes, you would need an ETA Short-Stay Business Visa or a Long-Validity Business Visa, depending on the length of your stay.

Because you are planning to have a fantastic Australian holiday, you could apply via the internet for an Electronic Travel Authority visa, otherwise known as the ETA visa, before you embark on your Australia holiday. This Australian ETA is an electronic visa for visitors who are going to Australia for either tourism or business purposes for a visit that will not last longer than three months. This is an electronically stored authorization for travel to the country and therefore, you would not need any paper documentation, labels or even a stamp issued in your passport. This would be digitally assigned to the passport number that you supplied during your application.

Similarly, if you are planning to work and live in the country on a permanent basis, you could also apply as an immigrant to Australia via the Australian General Skilled Migration Program. This program intends to match some skills shortages in the country by luring skilled migrants who would be able to create an immediate contribution to the economy of Australia. Or if you are planning on studying in Australia, you could also obtain a Student Visa.

An Australian holiday is undoubtedly a hit for most people because it offers some spectacular sights and great adventures. You could anticipate a fun-filled and relaxing Australia holiday. Prior to your Australia holiday though, you need to process your Australia visa first. The type of your visa would still depend on your purpose in visiting Australia. If you truly want an Australian holiday, get a travel visa real fast so that you could finally step foot and roam around this beautiful continent.

It has some great classical remains, vibrant city life and some of the most unusual prehistoric rock art in the Sahara region.

It does remain a difficult part of the World to visit, but with good preparation a visit should be problem free and well worth the effort. Whilst in the country, you must remember that it is an alcohol free area and the penalties if you are caught are extremely high. You must also remember not to speak too freely about the governing authorities, this is not the west and they do not take kindly to criticism.

The best time to visit is winter and spring when the temperatures are not so high and stay at a moderate level. The summer time brings 30C on the coast and as high as 50C in the desert interior, a little too hot we think!

Health-wise – Malaria is a risk in the extreme south west of the country in the spring/summer time and Schistosomiasis is evident in the rivers and streams, so take care not to swim in them. Again, precautions against sunburn and dehydration should be taken, as the sun can get very hot here, as you can imagine.

Visas and Documents – A visa is needed for travel to Libya for all western citizens and they are not the easiest to obtain as there are not many Libyan Embassies around. Visa applications need to be translated into Arabic and this can be done at the Embassy for a fee. Independent traveller visas are notoriously difficult to get, though things are getting easier.

Cost – Libya is not the cheapest destination in North Africa and the official exchange bureaus do not give a good conversion rate. Unofficial currency changers on the streets offer a much better rate, but you will attempt this at your own risk. The Libyan authorities look dimly on these kinds of “criminal activities”. Daily costs for the budget traveller will have to be at least $80 a day to be realistic; this will include local transport, food and a nights accommodation.

The Sights – Tripoli, the capital of Libya is a fascinating place with some lovely examples of the traditional architecture and culture of the region. Everyone who visits Libya will visit the city for at least a while and this is no bad thing as Tripoli is its heart and it really gives you an inside look into the odd totalitarian regime that runs the country.

There are two famous classical sights in Libya, Leptis Magna was a Roman ruin close to Tripoli and Cyrene is a ruined Greek settlement to the east of Benghazi. Both are captivating day trips and the well preserved sites are refreshing when compared to similar sights across the Mediterranean, which are usually packed with tourists. While the chances are you will share your experience with a tour group, it is still possible to find yourself alone in your exploration, surely a dream for Hellenistic and Roman history buffs.

The superb desert scenery around the country is enough to make you want to visit on its own, the best examples being around Ghadames, a charming Oasis town close to the Tunisian border. The mud brick housing around the town really takes you back to the days of old and is a great place to escape the crowds of the capital.

Further to the south by the Niger and Algeria borders, is the Acacus Mountains which has some of the best prehistoric art in the whole of Africa. Organised tours can be organised in Ghat, the gateway town. Please note permits will need to be organised in Tripoli to visit the extreme south.

By: Martin Kleis

About the Author:

le consider taking a vacation but can end up spending more than their budget allows. If you’re planning on taking a vacation, you may want to consider the following to aid in your stress free break.

How will decide to carry your cash when travelling? It is not always a wise decision to travel with large amounts of cash. Car Hire, Flights and Hotel bookings can be easily handled by obtaining a visa or a prepaid travel card. Although, most people exclusively use their cards for larger purchases you will find that carrying a credit card or a prepaid visa travel card a lot more convenient and acceptable whilst travelling abroad.

Unlike the alternative methods of payment, carrying a credit card makes it easier for you to concentrate on organising your other Travel Documents, and your receipts from your purchases. You will also receive a running total of your expenditure when you get home, so you have a record of all your purchases in case of any queries. And if you lose cash there will be no compensation, whereas, a card can be cancelled immediately with no further loss to your finances. Also, you can keep track of your spending by preloading the card with the amount of cash that you have budgeted for spending money.

Taking a visa card or a prepaid travel card would be a lot easier than managing foreign currency. If you decide to dine in a restaurant or stay in a hotel resort, cash can be a more inconvenient way to pay. Large amounts of cash can be lost easily or hard to manage particularly when you need purchase an item and you are not familiar with the currency. Use a credit card and the process is automatic.

If you don’t have a card you can always apply for one specifically for travelling abroad. There a wide range of prepaid and visa cards and lots of incentives from having one. Many entice customers by offering benefits not given by other companies.

Some credit cards or prepaid visa travel cards offer incentives such as rewards and membership points when you make a purchase using one. These points can be used to purchase items offered by many different stores. You can also obtain a card preloaded with incentive points for airmiles, and you can also obtain membership priviledges such as free accomodation or even free flights with some merchants. You can now have a relaxing holiday buy your presents and meals, petrol and food on your card and save points which you can use to buy other items when your vacation is over.

In conclusion, your visa card can make vacationing stress free. Earn reward points and obtain cash back at your leisure. One of the main advantages of carrying a card is that they are the preferred method of payment with most stores and establishments worldwide, and you dont have to worry about changing your cash into the local currency, or changing back when you arrive home. They are easier to carry and handle, some are easy to obtain regardless of your credit rating, and they are a good way to budget whilst travelling so you keep on top of your expenditure, leaving you feeling in control of your finances.

If you don’t have a visa card or a prepaid travel card you should get one before you next vacation. Apply online and you can receive a response almost immediately.

By: Debra Thomson

About the Author:

While you may have dreamed of traveling to India for your entire life, you will never get there until you have any India travel visa. Even your passport will not get you into India without an India travel visa, which is an official stamp allowing you entered into India for a specified time and reason. You must have an official travel visa to enter India, because without it the Indian authorities may refuse to let you in. If, for some reason, you are able to enter the country without an India travel visa, and your entry is later discover, you can be forced to leave.

Getting in India travel visa, fortunately, is quite simple. As long as you meet the regulations, you will have no trouble qualifying. While some people who are qualified fail to get India travel visas, in most cases they do so because of a failure to understand what the visa officer is telling them. Here are a few suggestions which can make qualifying for an India travel visa as painless as possible.

First, if your trip to India will be your first experience in international travel, your passport will be considered a “virgin passport.” The visa officer, on examining your passport, may either regard it as belonging to someone who has never before traveled abroad, or as belonging to someone who has visa applications to other countries have been refused.

Second, your passport may contain multiple visas. Doing so is an indication that other countries felt safe in issuing an entrance visa, and may make it more likely that you will qualify for an India travel visa. India, however, is a country with fairly high visa application approval rates.

Third, your travel agent should be more than willing to assist you in getting an India travel visa. But no matter whose assistance you ask for, here is a checklist of questions you need to have answers for before you apply:

* Have you already made arrangements for lodging or a hotel in India?

* Do you possess an authentic letter of invitation from someone in India?

* Are you financially responsible, and do you have a bank statement?

* Has one of your previous visa applications ever been rejected?

* Have you ever been convicted of a crime?

* Do you have a travel sponsor? If so, what is that person’s name?

* For what purpose are you visiting India?

The issuance of your India travel visa will depend on your answers to these questions. You need to be able to answer most of them positively. If you’re not sure what the India travel visa requirements are, have your travel agent explain them, or try to find someone who is already been issued in India travel visa.

Finally, your India travel visa application will have a better chance of being excepted if you have an embassy contact. Take the time to do an online search and educate yourself on the visa application process. Your entire vacation in India depends on your ability to get in India travel visa, and being rejected will only make it more difficult for you to get travel visas in the future.

By: Tim Roseland

About the Author:

Adventure touring can really test your mettle, whether you are traveling on your own or with your family. Part of the fun of an adventure tour is the inherent danger of the activity – but that’s no reason to be foolish. There are ways that you can reduce dangers and increase the fun quotient. These are five top tips to get the most out of your adventure tour.

1. Follow the Boy Scout motto – be prepared by planning ahead.

There’s an old saying – measure twice, cut once. When you plan ahead, you’ll be prepared for most of the mishaps that can happen on a wild outdoor adventure. One of the best ways to be prepared is to book your tour with a reputable and experienced tour company. A responsible adventure tour agent will provide you with all the information that you need to prepare yourself properly for the tour you book through them. If they don’t provide information like a list of documents and items you should bring with you, ask. If they don’t have one to offer, you might reconsider booking a tour through them.

Extra: You’ll need the basic documents, of course – passport, travel visa and return tickets – but as international security increases around the world, you may require additional documentation to cross some borders. Other documents you may need to present include vaccination certificates and proof that you have booked accommodation. If you are traveling with children, most travel agents strongly suggest that you bring proof that you have legal custody of the children.

2. Bring your own first aid kit.

Along with any prescription medication, you should also bring along any medications and medical supplies that you are likely to need – especially if you’re picky about brands. You won’t find any nearby pharmacies when you’re out in the middle of the Amazon highlands – or the Appalachian trails. If you’re on an organized adventure tour, your tour guide should have a first aid kit and basic medical supplies, but it never hurts to be sure you have the things you need with you. Especially in a foreign country, there is no guarantee that your favorite brand of painkiller will be available.

Extra: An ounce of prevention, says the old adage, and it’s doubly true when you’re vacationing away from “civilization”. Bug spray and sunscreen are a must, as are enough cleaning solution for contacts, or an extra pair of eyeglasses. Pack along your favored brand of pain reliever, a wrap-around bandage and an ice pack.

3. Check health and travel alerts.

If you’re traveling overseas, do yourself a favor and keep up to date on the health and travel alerts issued by the U.S. State Department. Informed travel is safe travel. There are many things that might affect your safety on an adventure trip – besides the dangers you are looking forward to braving. Extreme weather conditions, the political climate and health alerts can all make a difference in your planning. Be aware, and keep yourself informed so that you know what you may be facing.

Extra: You can research your trip and sign up for notifications about travel and safety alerts at allsafetravel.com. The site tracks safety, health and weather alerts issued by governments around the world to provide accurate information that is up to the minute for your destination.

4. Check in with your health insurance.

Are you covered if you break your leg in Nepal? Trip and travel insurance is a must when you’re traveling, but be sure that you know what will be covered. Your trip insurance should cover more than just treatment for an illness or accident. Look for repatriation coverage, and be sure that your policy covers you for any activities that you plan on doing. Many travel and trip policies specifically exclude extreme sports like whitewater rafting and rock climbing, or even skiing.

Extra: Bring along written prescriptions for all medications that you take regularly and keep them separate from your medications themselves. Check with your travel agent about riders on standard travel and trip insurance to extend coverage beyond the standard coverage.

5. Take what you bring and leave what you find.

In other words – leave nothing behind. It’s basic hiking advice. Eco-tours and other adventure tour agencies emphasize the importance of preserving and protecting the environment. Make a point of cleaning up after yourself when you stop and camp. If you bring it in with you, take it out when you leave, and if you find it on the trail, leave it there.

Extra: The best souvenirs to bring home with you are photos and memories. There’s no better use for extra weight allowance than extra batteries for your video or digital camera.

By: Grant Eckert

About the Author:

Due to the country’s beauty and popularity, many people like to go there for holidays and business purposes alike. Since Australia is a foreign country, one must apply for a visa to go there. There are many requirements for acquiring a visa, and depending on why you want to visit Australia, a different kind of visa will be necessary.

For those who want to move permanently to Australia and become a worker of some sort, a skilled immigration visa is appropriate. To apply for this visa, you should be forty five years of age or less, be proficient in English, know what occupation you are going to apply for, and be able to prove that you are competent in that profession. To do this, you must pass an exam and show documentation of experience in the field. Also, if English is a secondary language of an applicant, they must pass an additional test showing they are fluent in the language.

If you have an Australian family member who is willing to sponsor your visit to Australia, and usually allow you to take residence with them, then obtaining a visa can be somewhat simpler. The sponsor guarantees that the visitor will leave Australia before the visa expires, and if they fail to ensure this, stiff penalties apply. This visa should be used for anyone visiting family, and if there is no business or medical activity occurring. The family member pays the application fee (upon which the visitor can reimburse their family upon arrival), and may also need to cover a security bond. The terms of this visa allows the holder to visit once, but stay between three and twelve months. Only under special circumstances are people allowed to stay for a full year on this visa.

The Electronic Travel Application has made getting a visa to Australia easier than ever, as the process can be done on the Internet. There are three kinds of ETAs, known as holiday and visiting, short stay business, and long stay business. Holiday ETAs allow people to enter the country multiple times over a period of a year. However, each visit is supposed to be limited to three months or shorter.

Short stay business visas are for businesspeople that come to Australia occasionally for meetings or other things of that nature. Those who travel frequently would not be suited to this type of ETA, as it only permits one visit every three months. Long stay ETAs are actually quite similar to short term ETAs, except you are allowed to stay for at most three months on your trip.

Since ETAs can be obtained online, many people take this route, as it is the simplest. Several websites offer ETA processing, and all they require is a valid passport, credit card, and some other identifying information. After completion of an application, a reference number is provided so the user can go back to the website later to check their status, as well as print materials.

A basic visa application, for most types except sponsored family, is around $55. If you go through a website and utilize ETA, there may be additional fees that are contingent on the site itself. Most people are willing to pay these fees in exchange for the convenience of being able to get a visa online.

By: Daniel Millions

About the Author:

In the modern world there are few things governments protect more fiercely than the security of their borders. Australia is no different.
In the modern world there are few things governments protect more fiercely than the security of their borders. Australia is no different. As such, there seem to be a countless number of different visas, each appropriate to only a very specific set of reasons for visiting Australia. It is all too easy to become lost in the paperwork and jargon. This article aims to clear the metaphorical fog and explain exactly what visa you require for your particular trip to Australia.

Perhaps one of the simplest travel visas available is the ETA tourist visa. ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authority and represents the fact that this visa no longer takes the form of a stamp in your passport. Instead, if approved, the authorisation is stored electronically against your passport number. The only requirement set for those applying for a tourist visa is that they hold a passport in one of the thirty-four approved countries. However, do not assume that just because you meet this requirement you will then automatically qualify for a visa, this is simply not the case.

Therefore, it is recommended that you do not book flights until your visa has been approved, this ensures that you will not be disappointed. The tourist visa is valid for a period of twelve months and allows you to travel to Australia multiple times with each stay lasting no longer than three months. It is possible to study in Australia using this visa on the condition that the course lasts no longer than the maximum period of stay (i.e. 3 months).

Another very popular type of Australian travel visa is the working holiday visa. To satisfy the requirements for this applicants must; be aged between 18 and 30 years olds, hold a valid passport in an approved country, hold a return ticket or be able to prove that you have sufficient funds to purchase one and to cover the initial part of your stay, have no children and be visiting Australia with the intention of travelling rather than for economic or educational reasons.

If you are issued a working holiday visa then you will be entitled to stay in Australia for a period of twelve months and undertake temporary employment. The key restriction here is that visa-holders may not work for any one employer for a period of greater than three months. This limitation has been put in place to ensure that visitors do not become too settled in one location; tourism should be the primary motivation for the visit. Studying is permitted on this visa with a maximum course duration of four months. If you wish to study in Australia for a period greater than four months then you will require a student visa. To qualify for such a visa you have to have gained an offer of a place at an Australian college or other educational institution.

Finally, if you wish to visit Australia as a tourist for longer than 3 months but do not wish to seek temporary employment then you will require a long stay visa. The conditions of acceptance for this visa are less stringent than that for the working holiday visa.

By: Steven Smith

About the Author:
