The Carnival is Rio Janeiro Brazil’s chief event which happens at the height of the summer in Brazil.
The Carnival is Rio Janeiro Brazil’s chief event which happens at the height of the summer in Brazil. Each year, several thousands of tourists join the local citizens in festivities which spread over four days. The carnival starts on a Saturday and ends on Fat Tuesday, the day prior to Ash Wednesday which marks the start of the period of Lent for Christians. Some tourists make sure that their Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel is planned is such a way that it coincides with the Carnival.

The samba Parade or the Sambodromo is considered the highlight of the carnival in Rio Janeiro Brazil. It is aired in all the Brazilian states as well as in many other countries. It is also considered to be the best show in the whole world. The Sambodromo a strip about 700 meters long which has luxury boxes and spectator stands on either side. The chief fascination is the sights and sounds of the samba schools that march past until the day breaks. Merely fourteen of the most excellent samba schools are chosen to march through the Sambodromo.

It might take well over an hour for one samba school to pass through the Sambodromo. Each of the samba schools have a float richly decorated, frequently complemented with sexy females gyrating to the music. You also have the marching samba bands accompanying the floats; each band could have as many as 300 musicians encircled by lady dancers. So plan your Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel during carnival; you will see sights that you won’t get anywhere else.

If you can’t make it to the Sambodromo at Rio Janeiro Brazil for whatever reason, you can be present at several of the street carnivals that they have all around the city. One of the most conventional street carnivals can be found at Banda de Ipanemais which draws a crowd of up to fifteen thousand. Besides you have a choice of Carnival or masquerade balls which are attended by celebrities; people put on designer costumes and dance till the wee hours of the morning. The Copacabana Palace Hotel hosts the most famous ball of all; there is live music by various bands who takes turns on the stage frequently accompanied by a guest singer. So your Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel should be planned accordingly.

For a holiday maker who is looking for a place for vacationing, the city of Rio Janeiro Brazil is undoubtedly one of the best choices. This city which gives you unmatched pleasure is a mix of people of various colors, creeds and races. Rio de Janeiro actually means River of January in the Portuguese language. Its distinct scenery, marvelous bay and incredible beaches at one side and the towering mountains on the other, truly substantiates its title of Cidade Maravilhosa meaning Marvelous City. So it’s about time you made plans for Rio de Janeiro Brazil travel and got your bags packed.

The Iguassu National Park is between the border of Brazil and Argentina and is the second biggest of Brazil and the oldest. The falls are shaped like a semicircle and are 2.7 thousand meters wide and 72 meters high. The park was created in 1939 and is one of the most important Natural Reserve of South America. Recognized by UNESCO and ONU , for great importance as Symbol of Humanity. It also has a Visitor’s Center, an electric bus and the Canoas Port, an area with souvenir shops and a panoramic restaurant.

2. Excelsior Copacabana Hotel – A member of the famous Windsor Hotels chain, the very pleasant Excelsior is situated on a wide corner which offers excellent and unique ocean views. Rooms either have a side view superior) or a full ocean view. All of the hotel rooms are quite nicely furnished, spotless, and well maintained. The best rooms are the deluxe suites of course which take up the entire corner and offer both side and full ocean views. These suites also equipped with spacious bathrooms, a relaxing Jacuzzi tub, a flat screen TV and a comfortable king-size bed. The hotel also offers free local calls, free parking and an excellent breakfast buffet, what more could a visitor want?

3. Casa 6 – A small and clean hostel with quite a few private rooms, with shared or private cozy baths. It is on a very charming street with other hostels and boarding houses, and an easy walk to the beach, making it a perfect solution. The simple rooms get a lot of natural light and are very well maintained by the employees, and the owner has a wealth of information about the surrounding neighborhood. Although it is a quite pleasant spot, it is the location that draws most travelers here.

Where to eat:

1. Confeitaria Colombo – This establishment is the ultimate example of Rio’s sophisticated cafe culture reminiscent of Paris or Vienna. The huge and elegant space opens up to a canopy of stained glass that washes filtered light onto huge mirrors. Their dark, carved frames are of the same ornate style as the opulent wood-and-glass cabinets towering above the counters.

2. Doce Delicia – This colorful and modern restaurant is located in Leblon (with another branch at Rua Anibal de Mendonca 55, which is in Ipanema) and serves dishes like salmon in soy and ginger sauce, design-your-own salads (with ingredients like palm hearts and papaya) and quite tempting desserts like a chocolate mousse cake which is as delicious as it sounds.

3. Espirito Santa – This restaurant was opened recently in 2005, by the famous chef Natacha Fink which uses little-used indigenous ingredients like jambu root and graviola fruit to create a new and rather unique kind of Brazilian cooking. Some of the dishes include a filet of namorado (some sort of white fish), baked in a Brazil-nut crust and served over grilled fresh hearts of palm.

What to do:

1. Corcovado – Here you can spot the very famous Sugarloaf Mountain, the island-pocked Guanabara Bay and the breathtaking beaches outlining the coast like links of white sausages. Even better than this, you can make fun of the inevitable sightseer aping the statue’s outstretched arms for a photo. “Turistas chatos” means “annoying tourists” in Portuguese, should that phrase come to mind when in the near vicinity of that area.

2. Blue Man – This store sells sungas which is the Brazilian version of the famous American Speedo. Its bathing suits tend to be on the more provocative side and the stores’ other offerings make it easier to show it all off. Bill Clinton and Anthony Hopkins made headlines when they bought bikinis there back in 2001, although it was not clear for whom they purchased them.

Tumbao do Malevo – This open-air bar is situated under a tree canopy. It is not uncommon to see its patrons, still sandy from the beach, sampling fresh fruit caipirinhas while a group of musicians played mournful, shuffling chorinho music. You won’t find this anywhere else in Rio de Janeiro.

Its territory spans from the Atlantic Ocean to the central and east of South America, dwarfing the neighboring countries of Argentina, Uraguay, and Paraguay in the south, Bolivia and Peru in the east, and Columbia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana in the north.

10 Most Popular Brazil destinations:

Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro,

Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro,

Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo,

Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro,

Tijuca National Park, Rio de Janeiro,

Iguacu Falls, Foz de Iguacu, Parana

Pantanal Wetlands, Pantanal, Mato Grosso

Teatro Municipal, Rio de Janeiro,

Sugar Loaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar), Rio de Janeiro

Pelourinho, Salvador, Bahia

If you plan to travel to any of these places or plan take Brazil experience elsewhere, here are some of the things you should remember.

Do’s:

1. Try to learn as much Portuguese as you can. Yes, Portuguese. If you happen to visit other South American countries and have learned Spanish in the process, well, you can’t use it. Try to learn some word- the usual conversational phrases and sentences. Remember that although you can survive with English in large cities, most people living in rural areas would not be able to understand you.

2. Avoid dark and isolated places especially if you are alone.

3. Carry only the basics. In this way, you can avoid the eyes of petty criminals.

4. Know your destination before leaving. This rule applies before you leave the United State and upon arrival at your hotel. Keep a map if you must and don’t allow anyone to know you are lost if ever you caught in the situation. Knowing where you are going leads to a safer Brazil travel.

5. Bring necessary clothes and survival stuff. Bring long pants, long-sleeved shirt, eyeglasses, cap or hat to avoid mosquito bites. To further attracting illnesses from insects like dengue, leishmaniasis, and malaria, do bring insect repellant. Or, if you are planning to stay out overnight, bring mosquito nets, insect sprays, and necessary prescription medications.

6. Take taxi instead of busses. Bring money pouches strap around your neck. If you are driving your car, always keep the door locked.

7. Respect the locals.

8. If you are a victim of crime, report immediately.

9. Brazil like any other places has rules to follow. Obey them to keep you out of trouble.

Don’ts:

1. Never bring excessive valuables and show it to public. As much as possible leave your rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelries in a safe place. You can rent a purchase deposit box to keep your valuables safe.

2. Don’t carry money and credit card you don’t need because you can never tell when pickpocketers attack. Although Brazil has several safe places for tourists like Rio de Janeiro, it is always wise to keep your money in safe place. Try to carry enough cash for the day or at least one credit card with you. Leave the rest in you hotel.

3. Don’t swim in any fresh waters.

4. Avoid eating street foods and drink only bottled water. Don’t handle any animals.

5. Don’t bring to your hotel room any strangers you meet outside.

By: Robert Thatcher

About the Author:

As you can gather, it excels at more than just football.

My recent trip was to take me to historical Salvador, a vibrant city, alive and kicking with the strong influence of its African heritage. On a Tuesday night the colonial quarter, with its cobbled streets, pulsates to a rhythmic drum beat from street bands set up to play while the locals come out to eat, drink and dance. You get the feeling this is not just for visitors, this is a party for no other reason than it’s a Tuesday. During the day things are slightly quieter and you get time to wander and admire the beautiful colonial churches and colourful buildings. Most have been lovingly restored and are now museums, shops or small boutique hotels interspersed with restaurants serving an intriguing blend of African and Brazilian cuisine, with ingredients such as coconut, ginger, hot peppers, coriander and fish.

I was also lucky enough to take a private flight to the Kiaroa eco-resort. This is a small property 30 minutes south of Salvador by plane on the end of the Marau peninsula. The flight itself is a scenic adventure, passing along the lush southern coast of Bahia we landed on a private strip 50 yards from the hotel reception. Although it is a 5 star resort, with all the facilities you would expect, if feels quiet and relaxed, especially after the hustle and bustle of Salvador. Of the 28 rooms, most are bungalows with their own private plunge pools, set amongst exquisite tropical gardens. The property overlooks a long sandy beach, almost private in its emptiness, and being on a peninsular, you get the benefit of both sunrise and sunset, a double treat everyday.

Back to Salvador and I then headed north on the Coconut highway. A lovely 90 minute drive along empty beaches and palm trees, I arrived at the sleepy fishing village of Praia do Forte. Instantly my pulse slowed as I slipped into the local way of life. Praia do Forte is a pretty coastal village home to the hugely successful Tamar Turtle Reserve which was started in 1980 to save Brazil’s five species of sea turtle from extinction.

My trip ended in my most favourite city in the world – Rio. Fun, lively and with a naturally amazing setting, the buildings squeeze into the space between golden beaches and bays and the tropical escarpment, dripping with vegetation.

By: Steppes Travel

About the Author:

Ipanema and Leblon are permanent attraction during the day and also receive many habitués at night. Barra da Tijuca, Prainha and Grumari are all excellent for surfing, windsurfing and body boarding.

Rio de Janeiro is without a doubt one of the most popularly visited spots worldwide. If you think about it, it really has it all—the mountains, beaches, Arts, museums, sophisticated and bargain shopping facilities of all kinds, historical sites, red hot night life, and the list goes on forever. And all this you´ll just discover being in Rio de Janeiro, so, don´t delay, travel to Brazil!

Many people start with Sugar loaf Mountain (Pao de acucar). Its name describes the way the mountain juts out of the ocean and dazzles you with its sweet appearance. You can reach the top of it by cable car, which will stop halfway up at Morro de Urca. Both of these sites will provide you with picturesque views of the sea and city below. Rio de Janeiro is a great destination for your vacation in Brazil, or for the lucky ones, a romantic honeymoon in Brazil!

Don’t forget about Corcovado Mountain with the famous Jesus Statue. This is the most visited spot in Rio. The view here is also fabulous and a must see for anyone with a sense of adventure. Your vacation in Brazil will be also and adventure! Rio de Janeiro is waiting for you to discover its wonderful nature!

Speaking of adventure, perhaps you are one who looks to turn the adrenaline up a few notches. Hang gliding from the popular, Pedra da Gavea (Topsail rock) is a real hit for adrenaline junkies. It boasts a height of about 3000 feet and includes your landing on Pepino beach below. Travel to Brazil!

It is not at all unusual to see some of the famous soccer players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, or maybe even Pele himself playing a game of Futevoley (a combination of soccer and volleyball) at one of these popular spots. Copacabana also boasts one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the world at their New Year’s celebration. The fireworks are done in the most organized fashion from atop hotels and in boats well out in the harbor. Though often the attendance reaches the two million mark, it is a safe and joyous affair. Plan your vacation in Rio de Janeiro! Travel to Brazil!

Some of the other famous districts where the middle and upper classes like to congregate include: Barra de Tijuca, Lagoa, Jardim Botanico, Gavea, Flamengo, Botafogo, and Laranjeiras. Most of which can be reached easily and somewhat luxuriously on Rio’s sophisticated underground metro system. Speaking a bit more abstractly, picture some junctures that simply don’t exist in such harmoniously perfect forms in most countries. For example, the mountains meet the ocean and the forest meets the mountains in such blissful synergy it is impossible to describe with words. Travel to Brazil with for an unforgettable experience. Even photos are no substitute for the real thing—you have to witness it for yourself! Another unusual intersection that is not typically contemplated is where the urban jungle meets the real jungle. The Tijuca Forest (in Rio de Janeiro) boasts the second largest forest adjacent to a major city in the world. The largest one is coincidentally also in Rio de Janeiro.

Let us prepare your vacation in Brazil! Contact us for customized packages, as for a romantic honeymoon in Brazil. See the links bellow for more information on hotels, restaurants, and activities for a best vacation in Brazil! Choose the spot for your trip, and we make it the best for you! Travel to Brazil with us and have fun!

By: Luiz Silva

About the Author:
